Captain America Movies In Order

Captain America is a superhero that is portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The original character was based on the Marvel Comic books that came out in all the back way in the 1940s. The latest in the series, Captain America: Civil War will be the 3rd installment in the series and is due for release on May 4, 2016. The latest movie will be the 13th release in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and will be the first one of 2016. Since three movies from this series have already been released since the start of the Cinematic Universe, there are no more Captain American movies on the horizon. Marvel has scheduled nearly a dozen movies slated all the way through 2019 to keep their high energy superheroes fresh in the minds of the public. Luckily for fans of this character, Captain America makes appearances in some of the other Marvel movies including The Avengers (2012) and Age of Ultron (2015).

The question many of you are probably asking yourselves is if you should watch the Captain America movies in order. Like many film series, the makers attempt to create independent plotlines out of each movie. However, there are certain things you will understand better if you watch The First Avenger (2011) and The Winter Soldier (2014) before Civil War (2016). With that said, you can also watch the latest in the series, even if you have not watched the previous movies, especially if you are a casual fan. If you are really a big fan of the Marvel Universe, I would not only watch them in order, I would also watch The Avengers (2012) before you even begin any of the other movies. This movie contains characters from many of the Marvel movies, and fills in even more details which will be useful later on.

Like most Marvel movies, the Captain America series has been an overwhelming success. The first in the series had a moderate Rotten Tomatoes rating of 79% from critics, and 74% from the audience. The second had an 89% from critics and a 92% from the fans. These ratings showed in the box office earnings, which netted its makers $370 million and $714 mill respectively. Following up such a resounding success with The Winter Soldier (2014) will be tough to achieve, but if there’s anyone who can accomplish it, it’s Marvel!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a hit for the comic book company since it began in 2008. Many of their comics date back to the 40s and 50s which makes it easier for people of all ages to enjoy their superhero movies. No matter if you are an adult or kid, Captain America is a series that will stand the test of time and go down in movie history. Hopefully, Civil War is just the third part in what could end up being a very long and prosperous film series.
