Jason Bourne Movies In Order

The Bourne movie series is probably one of my favorite spy movies of all time. Every film in this four part series will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more. Known for its realism, Bourne does not use over the top CGI like James Bond or other spy movies which tend to be a bit over the top. This strategy has proven effective over the last decade with a combined box office earnings of over a billion dollars. With Universal confirming plans for future Bourne movies, hopefully the movies will eventually catch up with the books. Currently there are a dozen books with one being consistently written every single year.

Like most popular series, you definitely need to watch the Bourne movies in order. The Bourne Identity fills you in on crucial background information that is needed for the sequels. Sorry, there’s no way around it, it’s all or nothing. However, you’re in luck if you have a Netflix account. Each of the movies is available on DVD (sorry streamers!). The above list goes in chronological order, by release date. Hopefully we can update this list in upcoming years.

Bourne is no different from other popular movie series in the fact that it originated from a book. In fact, it seems most good things come originally from books. The original trilogy was written by Robert Ludlum, but the series has since been taken over by Eric Van Lustbader who has written nine books to date. The originally three Bourne movies that were based off of Ludlum’s books received good reviews from fans. The original Bourne Identity has a 7.9 on IMDB and a 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. On the contrary, the latest movie, The Bourne Legacy (Lustbader’s interpretation) only has a 6.7 and a 55% respectively. However, such declines are expected as a series ages and this isn’t really uncommon.

Jason Bourne has worked his way into popular culture over the last few decades. In fact, there have been books, movies, TV shows, and video games based off this popular character. In 2008 The Bourne Conspiracy was released for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The character also made a brief television appearance in 1988 on ABC. It was a direct to TV movie series and was based off of the original 1980 book.

If you’re a fan of the spy genre, the Bourne series is an absolute must watch. With currently four films, this highly realistic thriller has been exceeding fan’s expectations for over a decade. With a growing box office income, and dedicated fan base, this action packed flick is here to stay. Just remember, these films are not meant to be watched as standalones, they’re meant to be seen in the order in which they were released.

It is confusing. I love the individual movies, but still cannot tell, for example, how many there are. Are tjere 12? How many cd’s can I buy? Where do I buy them?

Matt Damon is essential, as was Sean Connery to Bond. Everything else is unconvincing.
