X-men Movies In Order

X-men is a classic American comic turned movie series.  On the same level as Batman, Superman, and Captain America, this successful series kicked off with its first movie in 2000 after 20th Century Fox acquired the rights to the name in 1994.  Since then nearly every film they made has been more successful than the last with a worldwide box office gross at over 3 billion dollars.  The last movie, Days of Future Past was easily the most successful, earning almost double any of the previous movies.  In fact, it was such a hit that there are two more films scheduled over the next three years.  There are also two potential movies in the making, one of which has been partially started, but yet to be completed.

Many people will debate you on the proper X-men movie order.  Many diehard fans will insist on watching it in chronological order, which is different from release dates.  While I would agree to do this with something like Star Wars, I wouldn’t do it with this series.  I would watch them in the order in which they were released.  The first movie does a good job at introducing all of the characters and gives plenty of background information about subsequent movies.  Don’t worry about watching it in chronological order, it’s not very important, and you may be confused.

Below is a list of the movies in chronological order:

  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
  • X-Men: First Class (2011)
  • X-Men (2000)
  • X2: X-Men United (2003)
  • X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
  • The Wolverine (2013)
  • X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

Like many successful films, X-men is originally based on comic books by Marvel and written by Stan Lee.  Of course because of its popularity, it has since been spun into books, movies, video games, action figures, and more.  Making its debut in the 1960s, X-men has since went on to become an American classic superhero movie like Superman and the rest.

Because of the increasing popularity of the movie series, X-men has two films scheduled for the future.  The latest film Days of the Future was released in 2014 and will be followed up by Apocalypse in 2016.  If all goes well with Apocalypse, there will be another movie slated for 2017 which is currently untitled.  However, it is known that it will be a solo flick about Wolverine and be a sequel to his 2013 film.

Many of the movies in this series have rave reviews.  In fact, the latest one has a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, an often very critical rating website.  However, many of the films in this series have 80+% ratings except for X-men Origins: Wolverine which at a 38% and was not received with the same warmth as previous and subsequent releases.

Whatever your opinion is on comic book turned movies, it’s very clear that Xmen is here to stay.  With each movie garnishing more attention than the last, this series will be around for decades to come.  With over five decades of history, this like many other Marvel classics is legendary among fans.  And remember, don’t be fooled by fans telling you to watch them in chronological order, just watch them in the order that they were released and don’t overthink it!

I was never a comiic book fan or
flocked to the newest Superman movie, then I caught Wolverine on TV and was hooked! I fell in love with Wolverine and his struggle to survive against insurmountable obstacles. I am now a fan of all the Xmen movies and their fight against hatred of those that are “different”. That said by this 73 year old Grandma of 8! PS. I’m also an avid fan of TWD!!! Not the zombies, but the story line, and the struggle for humanity. ?
