The Mummy Movies In Order

Fans of The Mummy movie series have seen several different versions of this classic franchise. Since its beginning in 1932, the series has included the Universal Monsters and Hammer films, the popular Brendan Fraser trilogy from 1999 to 2008, and the 2017 reboot starring Tom Cruise. Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (2026) takes a more frightening approach, following a family whose missing daughter returns eight years after disappearing in Egypt.

Hammer Stand-alone Films was the next company to produce this series for a total of four films from 1959-1971. The Brendan Fraser trilogy from 1999-2008 is probably the one people are most familiar with. Because of the widespread success of these films, The Scorpion King, a spin-off series, was produced to keep fans satisfied. The Scorpion King was distributed by Universal Pictures and grew into five films, with the latest released in 2018. The 2017 reboot and Lee Cronin’s The Mummy tell separate stories from the Fraser films.

If you’re interested in watching The Mummy movies in order, you would first have to pick out which generation you want to watch. Personally, I would view the most recent series myself. I’m a fan of the newer movies, but other people will tell you the classics are better. If you’re a fan of watching things in chronological order, then you should watch the spin off series, The Scorpion King before the main series. These movies take place 5,000 years before the start of the original series, and add additional context as to how Mathayus rose to power.

The Brendan Fraser movies were popular with audiences, although critics were less enthusiastic about the sequels. The first movie in the reboot trilogy in 1999 was received reasonably well by critics and fans. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a modest 56% critic rating, and a 75% fan rating. However, by the end of the trilogy critics were rating it as low as 12% while fans weren’t too thrilled either, ranking in at 30%. None of the films received any notable awards. All three films combined grossed over 1.2 billion dollars worldwide.
