The Chronicles of Riddick Movies In Order
The Chronicles of Riddick is an awesome science fiction series that combines edge of your seat action with your imagination to create a one of a kind movie series. It takes place in a fictional universe in a time where man has figured out interplanetary travel. The star of the series is Vin Diesel who plays Riddick, a self-described bad to the bone character who can fight, outwit, and outlast his way through any situation. He’s an ex-con and has used those street smarts to fight even the most seasoned veteran killers. This relatively successful trilogy has grossed over 200 million in box office earnings, and key actors also want to create additional movies as well.
The Riddick series, especially the latest in the trilogy doesn’t really need to be watched in order. In fact, many people who saw the latest release in 2013 were unfamiliar with earlier movies. However, I prefer to watch The Chronical of Riddick movies in order that they were released, chronologically. Even though the beginning of Riddick gives a little pre-face, it’s always optimal to start at the first and work your way down. However, if you’re aren’t looking to invest a lot of time into the series, you can also watch the latest one without starting with the first release.
This series has an interesting past, and most people thought it was dead with the second release in the series. The Chronicles of Riddick which was released in 2004 was definitely considered a box office flop. It drew in roughly the same amount of money that was invested into it, and many thought the series would end there. However, Vin Diesel proceeded to complete the trilogy in 2013 and it saw enough success to warrant a potential fourth film. Earlier this year Diesel expressed his interest in creating a new film, but no concrete dates were given.

I really enjoyed the premise of this series and the tough guy role that Vin Diesel played. I’m typically not a fan of space movies like Star Trek or Star Wars, but the intergalactic criminal aspect of these films was really a turn on for me. I think Diesel did an excellent job at portraying Riddick and it definitely exceeded my expectations.
While this movie series didn’t exactly receive the warmest welcome, I enjoyed it for the most part. The first movie Pitch Black, and the latest were probably the best. The second in the series definitely left something to be desired. Either way, with the success of the latest film, and Diesel’s interest in continuing the series, it’s likely we’ll see a fourth movie. If you’re trying to get into this trilogy, I suggest watching the first one, and finishing it out in order by release date.
