Bad Boys Movies In Order

Fans of the popular movie series Bad Boys can finally breathe a sigh of release as Sony has officially announced Bad Boys 3 and 4 which are slated for June 2017 and July 2019. Currently not much is known about these new movies, but what we can tell you is that Michael Bay will likely not be directing them. However, on the bright side both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have been confirmed as lead roles and are excited to begin working on the new project. Back in July 2015 Lawrence publically called on Will Smith to begin working on Bad Boys 3, so it’s clear that the two actors are both excited and willing to begin working on a new project.

Unlike most movie series, it’s not very important to watch the Bad Boys movies in order. While I cannot speak for parts three and four just yet, I can say that watching two before one would not be an issue. Each movie is completely independent of the other, and while they may share similar characters, they do not share a story line. You may understand a few inside jokes by watching them in order, but overall if you haven’t seen the first two, feel free to watch the latest in theaters when it comes out.

During the first two movies, it was clear that Smith and Lawrence worked great together. Both actors are funny and when put together they synergize perfectly. One of the things that allowed them to do this in the original movies was improvisation. Michael Bay gave the talented actors a lot of room to inject their own ideas into the script. Unsatisfied with the original script, Bay allowed them to improvise in many of the funniest scenes including the convenience store scene where they argue with each other to distract the clerk who is holding a gun to them. Their fake arguments to distract would be criminals became a trademark of the two, and the style would live in throughput both movies (and hopefully into the next ones!).

Because of the sheer talent involved in making this series, each of the films was wildly successful. The original Bad Boys movie grossed over $140 million in worldwide sales, while the sequel pulled in a whopping $273 million. Critics did not feel as good about the Bad Boy series as fans did, with the 1st movie receiving a 43% on Rotten Tomatoes while the 2nd film received a shocking 23%. However, fan reviews ranked significantly higher with both flicks receiving a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.6 and 6.8 on IMDB. Ultimately, critics are irrelevant, the vote is in: Bad Boys was a huge success.

Due to that success, Martin Lawrence is eager to begin working on the next chapter in this hilarious crime fighting duo. Rumors keep flying in as people theorize about who will be directing the new movie. At this point, it’s unlikely Bay will return, and the best guess right now is Joe Carnahan will be replacing his role. Whatever the case, the acting genius of Smith and Lawrence together is sure to bring forth another Blockbuster hit.
