The Chronicles of Narnia Movies In Order

Like many epic sagas, The Chronicles of Narnia movie series was originally based off of a book series. With seven books written, and only three movies so far, this awesome story still has a long way to go on the big screen. However, the future for this franchise looks bright with a total of 1.5 billion dollars in box office earnings between the trilogies. Last year the C.S Lewis Company announced plans for a fourth movie which will be entitled The Silver Chair. It’s currently unclear when we can expect this new installment, but the new film’s website is already up and is taking feedback from fans.

Similar to other fantasy movie sagas, you definitely need to watch The Chronicles of Narnia movies in order. Each movie is a continuation of the previous story, so the order is very important. Now like many series, particularly Star Wars, it’s a murky situation. The book order was changed after Lewis died, so the official publication order is actually not chronological anymore. However, if you’re just getting into the series, the non-chronological order (the current unofficial publication order) is just fine. It’s not really possible to read the books in a perfect sequential timeline. To do that you would have to stop reading in the middle of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and pick up The Horse and His Boy, and then switch back to TWW. For convenience sake, the current movie and book publication order is a perfect way to get started in this series.

The Chronicles of Narnia series has been very financially successful. It is part of the trilogy 1 billion club, earning over 1.5 billion off all of the trilogies. It’s also been received well by fans, with a Rotten Tomato of the original movie at a 76%. Subsequent releases earned slightly lower ratings at 67% and 49% respectively. However, despite the lower rating of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, a new movie is already in the works. Last year it was confirmed that David Magee would be writing the screen play for the latest movie in the series, The Silver Chair. While there is no definite release date, we have definite confirmation that the movie is being worked on.

If you’re a lover of fantasy genre films, this series is a much watch. Like other epic sagas such as Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia has cemented its way into the fantasy genre as a top authority. With only three films out, this series is only about halfway completed, so fans can look forward to future releases for many years to come. If you can’t wait to find out what happens next, that’s OK too, just hop on over to the book series!
