Friday the 13th (Jason) Movies In Order
Friday the 13th is probably one of the most memorable movie series to come from the horror genre. With Jason having the highest body count of all movie stars, it’s inevitable that we dedicate some time to this multifaceted killer. Since this series came out in 1980, there have been, perhaps ironically, 12 movies made in total. Movie production has slowed for this franchise in the 2000s with only three films in the last 14 years. The latest movie simply titled “Friday the 13th” was produced in 2009 and did better than any other movie prior to it. It’s unclear why we haven’t seen much from this franchise lately, and it’s a little surprising we didn’t get the 13th movie back in 2013.
It’s not really that important to see the Friday the 13th movies in order. Let’s be honest, this series isn’t about the plot, it’s about watching Jason do his thing. Each of these movies is considered a full standalone feature, and no details from previous movies will help explain what’s going on. Pick and choose which ones you watch first based off of ratings, age, or whatever metric you want. Above is the list of all of them in chronological order, maybe you could start there.
Jason has killed more than any other movie serial killer out there. With over 150 confirmed kills, he by far has the most blood on his hands. Granted he has more movies than his rivals, but he still holds a place for being the deadliest killer in movie history.
Jason has earned a lot of praise in popular culture, with many references to him from various sources. The infamous mask has been featured in video games, TV, other movies, and has even been sung about. Jason has been making his rounds throughout popular culture for the better part of 30 years now, and is showing no signs of letting up. Most notably he was featured in Grand Theft Auto, rapped about by 2pac, and seen on the BBC hit show Atlantis.
Every release in this film series has been reasonably successful. All of the movies have grossed their makers roughly a half billion dollars between all 12 of them. The latest was the most successful, earning 91 million with a budget of only 19 million. Because of the combined success, and the recent high earnings of the 2009 flick, there is rumored to be a 2015 Jason movie coming to us. According to that rumor it will be released on March 13, which is also coincidentally a Friday and will be the 13th installment in the series.
Regardless if you enjoy watching slasher films or not, the Jason movies are among the most notable in their genre. Known for the brutal and imaginative methods of killing his victims, Jason is among the deadliest movie serial killers ever. With movies slated for the future, past movies being largely successful, and hundreds of references in popular culture, it’s clear that movie fans all over love this infamous serial killer.
