The Samurai Trilogy (Hiroshi Inagaki) trilogy kicked off in 1954 with the first movie in the series Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto.  In 1955 a second film was released staring Toshirô Mifune, Kôji Tsuruta, Mariko Okada, Kaoru Yachigusa, and in 1956 the series was completed with Samurai III: Duel at Ganryu Island.
