Disney Movies In Order
Walt Disney Studios is one of the biggest motion picture companies in the world. It is responsible for hundreds of different movies, with new ones being added to the list around once a month. Starting in the 1930s with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and continuing for nearly 100 years, Disney Studios is a cash cow for its parent company. In 2012 it brought in over 5 billion dollars from videos, animations, and musicals alone. The 2000s have treated Disney well with many big name purchases. Two of the most notable are the buyouts of Marvel Comics, and Lucas Film. This gives Disney access to the entire Marvel character base, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, and The Avengers. With Lucas Film comes Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Luckily, it appears Disney is going to keep making movies from those series, with a Star Wars trilogy reboot in the making.
The Disney Company was founded in 1923 by two brothers, Walt and Roy. The company would go on to become the world’s second largest broadcasting company, and become a household name for people across the world. It has since dominated the animation industry, and established theme parks around the world. The company now owns many large broadcasting companies including ABC, ESPN, and A&E, making it one of the most recognizable companies in the world.

The amount of money Disney brings in with its movies and other ventures is simply astounding. In 2013 they reeled in 45 billion dollars of revenue, and held over 80 billion in assets. In that same year, they made eight different movies, with even more in 2012. With top hits such as Frozen and The Muppets coming out in the last year, Disney is showing no signs of slowing down. And why should they? With hot movies like Toy Story, Tron, and Pirates of the Caribbean slated for 2015, this company practically has a license to print money.
A collection of all of the most popular Disney characters
Like many large companies, Disney continues to buy out the competition. That includes movie producing rights for some of the most popular films out there. In fact, Disney recently acquired the rights to both Marvel Comics, and Lucas Film, giving them ownership of dozens of famous movie series. Other companies that Disney owns which you may not know about are ABC, ESPN, A&E, Pixar, History Channel, Lifetime, and much more. If you watch any TV at all, it’s unlikely you haven’t benefited from Disney and their programming. It’s not just media Disney has its hands in either. They own dozens of resorts, hotels, theme parks, and various different stores. In fact, they have their hands in just about every aspect of business.
The Walt Disney Company has a rich history in America. Their origins go all the way back to the silent movie era where it purchased the rights to Alice’s Wonderland in the 1920s. Through WW2, the demand for traditional movies decreased and many of their talent went off to war. Because of this, the U.S government commissioned Disney to make propaganda films. In fact, during the height of the war, almost all of their staff was working on war related movies. By the 1950s Disneyland was in the works, and so were all of the animated films that it would be based on. Leading into the 1960s, one of the original Disney brothers, Walt passed away of cancer. Roy was able to hang on to his leadership position in the company until 1971 when he retired. Unfortunately he died later that year, leaving control to Ron Miller, Card Walker, and Donn Tatum.
In the 1970s, Disney struggled to find its role in the movie industry. The loss of Walt and Roy devastated the company, and under the new leadership Disney sought new ways to keep the company fresh and profitable. They released Black Hole in 1979 which was a movie intended to ride the Star Wars coattails. It was aimed at older audiences, and was the first PG rated movie that they made. During this time they also experimented with horror movies, until finding their true groove in the 1980s.
And find their groove they would eventually do, but not before some turbulence. In the 1980s, Disney started to lose the youth market. Some attributed this to the fact that young people were mimicking teenagers at earlier ages than ever, leading to a decline in demand for Disney products.
