Mad Max Movies In Order
If you’re a fan of action movies, then there is no better franchise for you than the Mad Max series. These films take you through the dystopian wasteland that has been ravaged by war and suffered a complete societal collapse. Gangs of criminals are forced to fight for diminishing resources in an increasingly dangerous world. The current series includes four films, the latest of which entitled Fury Road came out in 2015. The series appears to have a long and prosperous future ahead of it. As recently as this year, George Miller, the writer, producer, and director of the Mad Max movies has stated that he intends to produce at least two, perhaps three more films in this series.
If you’re wondering if it’s necessary to watch the Mad Max movies in order, the answer is probably not. Each movie is completely independent from the last and does not contain a plot which is chronological across all movies. While the characters remain similar from one movie to the next, the plot line does not remain consistent across all four. Additionally, there are flash backs in later movies that provide any necessary context you need to enjoy whichever film you’re watching. However, if you intend to watch the entire series, I would watch them in order just so you can watch the various characters develop. Aside from that, if you just want to watch the latest one in the series, you’ll still enjoy them.
The Mad Max series has been a resounding success for its creators. Even the earlier films are highly rated both by critics and the general public. In fact, it’s developed a cult following with a very loyal fan base. Even on the highly critical Rotten Tomatoes, the average critic score is 91% with an average fan score of 7.2 out of 10 on IMDB. With many movie series, as time goes on, the makers become less original and fan’s interest start to fade. However, it appears that the opposite is true with Mad Max, where the latest 2015 hit, Fury Road was the most highly rated movie of all. This can be attributed to the plot, but also the amazing special effects differences from the last movie in Beyond the Thunderdome in 1985.

The future of this movie series looks bright, and according to its makers there is enough left in the story for at least two new films. After the release of Fury Road, George Miller stated that the next film entitled Furiosa had already been written and he hopes to start production soon. After the release of Fury Road, rumors spread that it was the end of the Mad Max series. However, Miller confirmed in a January 2016 interview that those statements were untrue, and that the series would continue to live on.
For decades, Mad Max has been delivering the ultimate action packed movies, with nearly non-stop fighting, racing, explosions, and more. The films which have developed a cult following are just now being revived after nearly two decades of silence from their makers. With At least two more in the works, this hit series is going to keep its fans entertained for many years to come.
