Tom Cruise Movies In Order
Since Tom Cruise began his acting career in 1981 at the age of 19, he has been an inspiration to movie lovers across the world. Since then, Tom has fought to become one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood, starring in dozens of blockbuster films such as the Mission Impossible series, Minority Report, and Eyes Wide Shut. It seems no matter what movie Cruise stars in, it is a hit with many of them earning hundreds of millions of dollars and netting him a slew of various awards. To date he’s earned well over three dozen various awards such as the Academy Award, the Golden Globe, and the People’s Choice Award.
Born in the suburbs of New York, early life was anything but easy for Cruise. His father, an electrical engineer was abusive to the family and was dubbed “a merchant of chaos”. Due to the nature of his father’s job, much of the early life of Cruise was spent in Canada where his father worked for the Canadian Armed Forces. His mother, a special needs teacher would later go on to divorce his father and relocate the family back to New York in order to get away. For the most part his family was considered poor which makes it all the more impressive of the extreme success that he obtained in his later years.
Cruise first started his acting career in 1981 with a small part in a film called Endless Love. He only had a small handful of lines in the movie, and a small amount of screen time, but this first exposure would be the beginning of a long and prosperous career. Later that year, Cruise would get his first major role in the drama film Taps. In it he portrays a military cadet whose academy is gripped in controversy after the accidental death of a local in the nearby town. Since then Cruise’s full move list would boast over three dozen separate films and receive almost another three dozen different awards.
Acting is not the only thing Cruise has perfected, in 1993 he started a joint venture Cruise/Wagner Productions in which he partnered with Paula Wagner who had a history of successful movie productions. He would go on to produce many successful films including the Mission Impossible series, cementing his reputation as one of the most wealthy and powerful members of the Hollywood elite. His film franchises are said to be guaranteed successes, earning hundreds of millions or billions of dollars each.
His career took a dark turn in 1990 when he joined the Church of Scientology, an organization which is widely recognized as a cult. He began lobbying various governments in Europe to establish Scientology as an official religion, but was met with rejection as officials labeled him a militant and barred any further meetings with him. In 2004 Pay Kingsley, his publicist for the prior 14 years was fired by Cruise because of her disagreement with the role Scientology played in his life. He would go on to replace her with his sister, and fellow Scientologist. Nearly a decade later his wife, Katie Holms divorced him to protect their daughter from Scientology and its overreaching views.
Tom Cruise is one of the most well-known actors in the world, and a household name virtually everywhere. His long and successful career has earned him a reputation for being one of the Hollywood greats. Despite his controversies within the Church of Scientology, Cruise is widely respected for both his acting and production roles in some of the biggest and most successful movies in the world.
